This program is a totally different concept in concession points of sale. Other programs lock the user into a complete "solution" and require that all sales be processed through that program, even if the resultant reports are not what the user wants. The "Hungry Camel" is a simple DOS based Point of Sale designed to be used in conjunction with a major spreadsheet, such as Excel or Star Office. As such, it divides the sales and inventory process into logical components and allows almost unlimited flexibility.
The "Hungry Camel" (tm) allows a cashier to use a standard computer keyboard to enter sales. These sales are recorded both as an audit trail file and in a concession item file. This item file is then imported into a spreadsheet template containing the physical inventory counts. Standard spreadsheet templates are supplied with the program for those users who do not initially require custom reports.
You may ask, "Why is this program different than any other program?"
This program releases you from the bondage of dedicated programs. It allows the user who is willing to walk away from reliance on expensive mainstream systems to find a personal and flexible method of accounting. With a Hungry Camel you can:
- Use inexpensive old computers or laptops for sales entry at the concession stand. Using otherwise "outdated" equipment reduces your equipment cost.
- Network or not, depending on your needs. Add a sales station at will by plopping a laptop on the counter!
- Modify concession reports immediately to meet your needs!
- Find out what really happened during a sale. Every keystroke is logged to a file, with the exact time shown, and number of the cashier. There is no disputing a microsecond by microsecond trace of what occurred.
Spreadsheet programs make great report generators. What are we to say but "Thank-you" to all the early programmers who made them possible? All that we needed to develop was the front end for the cashier's sales record and cash drawer interface. That wasn't all that expensive to do. Excel, Star Office and many other spreadsheet programs are already available for advanced reporting.
This program is so simple that any six-year old can sell concessions. Anyone with even a rudimentary knowledge of computers can copy or import the files into their spreadsheet.
Limitations? Without using the shift or alt key, your standard keyboard can sell 40 different items. By using shift and alt, or the 176-key keyboard, you can sell 120 different concession items. You can have two taxes, and each item carries its own tax info, so if popcorn isn't taxed, but candy is taxed at 7%, and drinks are taxed at 3% and hot dogs at 5%, your response can be "So, (yawn) what?" The program was not designed to sell every item at a department store, it was designed to be fast, simple, and present novice cashiers with a single sales screen that could be grasped in an instant.
TSS, Inc. can supply software only or software and hardware, including a compact keyboard and a small 9" monitor, saving space in your concession stand.
